Deputies And CBP Agents Seize Approximately 13 Boxes Of .223 Ammunition Destined For Mexico
Maverick County Sheriff's Office (PRESS RELEASE) - On Saturday July 27, 2013, at around 5:53 pm, Deputy Sheriffs arrived by the port of entry No. 1 to assist CBP Officers in the detention of a vehicle suspected to be transporting ammunition into Mexico. Said vehicle, a grey in color Mitsubishi with Mexican license plates was on the United States side of the International Bridge when it was approached by CBP Agents. Agents ordered the driver to exit the vehicle which time the driver veered into the oncoming lane, in an attempt to flee to Mexico. The driver of the vehicle was forced to stop due to traffic just after crossing the Mexican Border. CBP Agents along with Deputies stood at the Mexico/US soil. CBP Agents took two subjects into custody, A male and a female. Vehicle was taken to VACAS where an X-Ray revealed abnormalities within the vehicle. Upon conducting an intrusive search of the vehicle, 13 boxes, wrapped in black electrical tape, were discovered concealed in the panels of the doors. The boxes contained large amounts of .223 caliber ammunition. The two suspects and vehicle were turned over to ICE who will continue further with the investigation.
