Mayweather himself has said that when he goes into the ring with another fighter, his race and cultural background make no difference to him, for in the fight game, it's simply two fighters attempting to reach the same goal and that's why contests such as these in a sport that is hungry for these types of match ups, the kinds of fights that go down in boxing history and this fight which is being promoted as "The One" will not fall short of expectations by any stretch of the imagination and should live up to all the pre-fight hype as the greatest, most lucrative pay-per-view event ever.
What Mayweather did say was that even though he may always overlook where his opponent is from, he did confirm that of all boxing countries, Mexico has been one to produce great boxing champions and it is for this reason for the incredible turnout in San Antonio on this cool, beautiful, overcast Monday afternoon as the temperatures aided the multitudes of men, women and children all gathered here today.
Leija & Battah partnered with Golden Boy, Mayweather and Canelo Promotions to bring the spectacle of the anticipation leading to this fight and if you could bottle up the emotion and sell it, you may get near the astronomical amount of the paydays that prizefighters such as Mayweather, the highest paid athlete in the world has been seeing and this fight should be no different.
What Money may not have counted on and may have equally influenced his arriving two hours and fifteen minutes after their initial 6:00 P.M. conference time, the influence of a growing Latino community of passionate fight fans, especially in Texas and the southern states, may prove to be a not too friendly or receptive environment for the champion when the two are at the same place at the same time such as in Houston this morning where they treated those gathered there to a lengthy stare down of epic proportions.
So the stage is set. Mexico's Jalisco Juggernaut who has an entire nation behind him, a relentless package of quickness, poison, thunder and lightning for anyone who is brave enough to go into the ring with him, a panther who stalks his prey and goes in for the kill with an arsenal of weapons such as quickness, defense, devastating body work and sheer punching power who will lay his two world championships on the line against America's Finest as once again he comes in to gorge on the benefits of his well-earned stature who is admittedly looking forward to retiring 49-0.
One thing's for sure, the fight is going to be a veritable train wreck. Two undefeated warriors. The best the world has to offer any time any where. A clash which is projected to be the rebirth of the sport. The reigning champion against the champion of the future... Something's got to give.
Special thanks to the Fightin' San Antonio Police Department for their assistance in controlling the masses and allowing us access to the press area in order to cover this event the way it deserved to be covered and to Leija & Battah for their professionalism and the fine organization of yet another grand event with which they accomplished their goal of showing the boxing world the support of a true demographic of fight fans hungry for a fight of the caliber of this Super Welterweight Championship Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada. Who will be "The One?"
