What plagued the home team on this day were miscues as three errors in the very first inning cost the Eagles three quick United runs and the 8-0 Longhorns are not a team that need any help from the opposition as they took advantage and went up by three in the top- of the first frame.
The hard throwing right hander, an imposing figure on the mound, held the Eagles at bay after allowing two runs in the first inning when Eric Gonzalez got on on an error by the catcher and was sacrificed over to second by none other than Torres. The fleet-footed Gonzalez proceeded to steal third as he got a great jump on a breaking pitch to catcher Diego Gaona putting Gonzalez in serious scoring position and the Eagles were in business.
Needless to say, Coach Reynol Mendoza needed not worry how he was going to get Eric home because Gaona got a hold of a Solis fastball and hit a moonshot over the left field fnce despite a brisk 15-20 MPH wind blowing in from right field. A monster shot! 3-2 United after one.
Down 4-2 in the fourth, the 'Horns generated three more the hard way on base hits as Gilbert Villalobos came in in relief of Torres, but not before the Longhorns jumped out to a 7-2 lead.
The Eagles plated one more in the fifth on a double by Torres followed by a double steal which caused the United catcher to throw the ball away leading to the third Eagle run, but the 'Horns plated three more, one in the sixth and two in the seventh to go to 9-0 in district play.
For the Longhorns it was 10 runs on 11 hits and two errors. For the Eagles it was three runs on seven hits and five big errors.
Diego Gaona, who was being scouted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays went 3 for three including that two-run jack in the first and Devon Torres was 2 for 4.
