May 23, 2024, marks the four year anniversary of the murder of local resident Brian Davila. Davila was 19 years old when he was alledgedly murdered by Luis Alonso Perez.

Since then, authorities have been working on solidifying their case against the defendant, 24-year-old Luis Alonzo Perez Jr. who was accused of the murder back in 2020. Since then, Perez has been formally indicted by a Maverick County Grand Jury on July 2022.

Brian Davila, who was 19 years old at the time of his death, was shot in the head outside a business on El Indio Highway when he and Perez had an altercation.

Davila was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Centers but died from the injuries he sustained.

Perez fled the scene but was later arrested at his residence.

Since then, numerous things have taken place related to this tragic incident.

Luis Alonso Perez, back in February 2024, was found guilty in an unrelated matter but involving Davila.

After 4 days of testimony, a jury found Luis Alonso Perez guilty of a burglary of habitation. Perez was taken into custody, and his bond was increased to $250,000.

This guilty verdict could be a critical point in a future trial where Perez is being accused of Davila's murder.

The burglary of a habitation charge with an intent to commit the felony offense of Aggravated Assault against Brian Davila occurred back on December 19, 2019.

5 months later, another incident led to the shooting death of Brian Davila at the hands of Perez.

Perez was then arrested and charged for murder.

That case remains pending, and a trial could start this year.

The murder of Brian Davila occurred in May 2020. His family has been waiting for close to 4 years for some kind of justice.

Perez is currently waiting to go to trail on murder charges for the death of Brian Davila.

It's important to note that an individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
