City Holds Festival De Luces Ceremony

The City of Eagle Pass and its Park & Recreation Department on Friday, November 24th hosted thousands of community residents during the annual Festival De Luces Ceremony held at the San Juan Plaza in the heart of downtown.

 

The annual tradition welcomes in the Christmas Holiday season as members of the Eagle Pass City Council including Mayor Rolando Salinas turned on this year's Christmas light displays.
During the event, City Marketing Director Aide Castaño welcomed all in attendance and introduced this year's speakers including Pastor Brian Cisneros from Axis Church, and Mayor Salinas.
"We thank you for joining us today as we kick off the holiday season," said Salinas. When we turn on the lights, you will see more than 1 million lights, that will encompass our plaza, main street, city park, ICT, City Hall, public library, the bridge and sports complex.
Thank you to DÉCOR IQ from San Antonio, and Jose Garcia and staff have been working here since October to make sure we had everything ready. They will be on until January 6th from 6pm to 2am."
Castaño then announced the winners of this year's art contest.
The winners included 6th Grader Aiden de Luna from Pete Gallego Elem., Hailie de Luna 7th Grader EPJH, and 10th Grader Geovanni Bernal from CC Winn High School.
The group which included Council members Elias Diaz, Monica Cruz, Mario E. Garcia, Maverick County Judge Ramsey E. Cantu and other public dignitaries then proceeded to turn on the San Juan Plaza Christmas lights.
This year you will find four distant corners, all beautiful and special in its own way.
They are called:
Santa Express, Candy Lane, Gingerbread Village and Winter Wonderland.
