Texas to Deploy Floating Barrier along
Rio Grande River in Eagle Pass by July
Texas Governor Greg Abbott last week announced the deployment of new marine floating barriers to deter illegal crossings in hotspots along the Rio Grande River.
Abbott stated that the new floating barrier will prevent illegal crossings between the two ports of entry. The strategy is to make it more difficult to cross the Rio Grande River and reach the Texas side.
The first 1,000 feet of the marine floating barrier will be set up by July 7th near the Shelby Park area. It will cost about $1,000,000.
The Texas Department of Public Safety has been running Operation Lone Star for more than two years, costing the taxpayers billions in the effort to stop human and drug smuggling along the Texas border.
