In a surprise move which has left Eagle Pass wondering how the decision of a District Judge can be so quickly overturned in relation to the assigning of an interim County Commissioner of Precinct 1, Javier Libson, who according to County Judge David Saucedo had very positive input and a different perspective, was replaced on Monday by Gerardo Morales who now becomes the new County Commissioner of Precinct 1 in Maverick County.

Morales has long been a productive businessman and citizen of Eagle Pass having also done much for the youth of Maverick County when he ran the Eagle Pass American Little League.

Libson also brought his extensive business experience and an engineering degree which was immediately evident in his very first meeting as commissioner, voicing his concerns over the impending permit given to the Dos Repulicas Coal Partnership.

But when Eliaz Maldonado tendered his letter of resignation on Friday, it gave way to Saucedo needing to appoint an interim commissioner.

"I have his (Madonado's) letter in hand," stated Judge Saucedo in a press conference first thing  Monday morning, "At that juncture, the position is vacated, there is a vacancy in the office of county commissioner.  The county judge makes an appointment."

"I'd like to take this opoortunity to thank Mr. Libson for his service these last two weeks.  He had some very positive input I believe brought to the table a different perspective of what we can incorporate to what we're doing in Maverick County.  We've had a very conservative policy as far as spending is concerned, the way the offices are run."

"I had the opportunity to visit Mr Morales, one of our local residents, a resident of Precinct 1, and I told him some of the policies and the direction that we're going.  We'd like him to be on our team."

Morales was then officially sworn in before family and friends as the newly appointed commissioner of Precinct 1.
