Biden Admin. to Let Covid-19 Health Emergency Expire
By Jose G Landa
The United States Federal Government will be lifting all rules on the Covid-19 pandemic in May, ending the three-year pandemic that affected the entire country including Maverick County.
Locally, the Covid-19 pandemic killed 477 people and infected 21,766.
With the new set of actions, set for May, the Biden administration plans to let the coronavirus public health emergency expire.
This is a sign that the Federal Government believes the pandemic has moved into a new, less dire phase.
This is truly significant because it will surely change the way the federal government and states handle tests, treatments and vaccines - which could change from being free once the emergency is over.
Maverick County has seen a significant decrease in positive cases. Last month there were less than 70 new positive Covid-19 cases detected.
This is possible due to the large number of people that have been fully vaccinated in our community.
Authorities have reported that approximately 57,557 (99.2%) people in Maverick County are fully vaccinated.
