The Eagle Pass Fire Department over the weekend recognized two local residents and others who assisted during a structure fire on Thursday, December 29.
"We have some heroes that we would like to thank that helped us during a structure fire at the 2400 block of Main St.," informed EPFD. "While Eagle Pass Fire Department was battling the blaze from the front of the building, Angel Mauricio Huerta and Hector Huerta (19 and 16), fought the fire with fire extinguishers from the rear of the residence to cool the area so cars that were parked along the fence at the Holly Apartments under extreme heat could move them out of the way. Your courageous acts are not unseen."
The Fire Department also thanked Correctional Officer Jesse Espinoza and soon-to-be volunteer fire fighter brought water so personnel could stay hydrated during fire suppression operations.
General Management of the Pizza Hut on Main St. and workers brought pizzas for the EPFD crew and Wendy's offered free meals for all first responders.
"We thank you for your generosity. All off-duty personnel that were able to come in and help with the fire and EMS calls.
