Manrique Fuentes, Maverick County Water Plant Supervisor, informed The News Gram that at 2:00 A.M. a retaining wall from the MCWCID had broken and residents in the Radar Base area, the airport, Normandy and Quemado are being notified of emergency water rationing until further notice so that area residents are not left without water as the MCWCID conclude repairs.
In a memorandum dated July 6th, from Maverick Count water Works, they informed that water is to be used for human consumption only, no irrigation of crops, watering of lawns, washing of vehicles until further notice.
Inspections will be done and citations will be issued, no exceptions.
"If people abuse the water at this time, we will se a shortage," stated Jose Luis Rosales, Commissioner of Precinct 3, "They're saying one to two weeks and we only have capacity for so many days."
The County and the Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District are looking for resources to supply the water plant for treatment and distribution. They are working with the MCWCID to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
