The United States Border Patrol reported that there were 2.7 million migrant encounters along the southern border of the United States in the past year.

According to information provided as part of U.S. Customs and Border Protection's fiscal year end show that this is the highest number in recent history.

Along the Del Rio Sector which includes Maverick County, illegal crossings have also been at an all time high. This comes with many problems including an increase in migrant deaths.

Currently, authorities are storing migrant bodies in a cooling system box car. Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber is responsible for the keeping of those deceased individuals.

The month of September had 227,547 migrant encounters along the southwest border. Officials are expecting to continue seeing great numbers of migrants attempting to make their way into the country.
