Four Year Old, Lost While Crossing
Rio Grande, Found Dead
A tragic and sad ending for a family who attempted to cross illegally into the country through the Rio Grande River.
Last Friday, a group of individuals from Nicaragua began their journey to get across the Rio Grande, but tragically a four-year-old girl was swept away by the river's treacherous currents.
Angelica María Silva Salas, who along with three others were able to make it across and were detained by U.S. Border Patrol, reported her young daughter was swept by the river's current.
Salas hoped that 4-year-old María Angelica Salas had been rescued by individuals in the Mexican side of the river.
Her hopes have now turned to tragedy, as authorities including the Eagle Pass Fire Department located the young girl’s body in the Rio Grande River.
She has now been transported to a local funeral home.
Her mother who has since been transported to Florida has been notified that her daughter has been found.
This is just one of the many tragedies and dangers that individuals looking to find the American Dream expose themselves to.
On a yearly basis, many migrants die attempting to cross illegally into the country.
The United States Border Patrol also rescue hundreds, if not thousands of individuals from the elements as they attempt the crossing.
