Local Officials held a press conference on Thursday  to address the current migration situation being seen about 50 miles to the North in Del Rio Texas.

During the press conference, Mayor Rolando Salinas and County Judge David Saucedo stated that they're doing everything possible to prepare for any scenario that may arise as an influx of Haitans comes through the area.

Illegal Immigration and its problems are overwhelming communities such as Val Verde and Maverick Counties. Both communities are dealing with a surge like never before seen where all hands are on deck to tackle on the ever-growing problem.

What's known is that the people coming in are mostly from Haiti which has suffered tragically due to a devastating Earthquake. Due to that situation, The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has granted Temporary Protected Status benefits for at least  15 months for those people and other from surrounding countries.

In Del Rio, Tx. Mayor Bruno Lozano and other local authorities are feeling challenged and overwhelmed as they face an ongoing crisis that's being exacerbated by different variables  including the recent Haitan surge.

Del Rio Texas has become an epicenter for the most recent surge of immigration unlike anything seen before.

Just this week, officials including US Del Rio Sector Border Patrol have had to deal with the arrival, housing, and handling of thousands of Haitan immigrants who are either waiting to be detained or processed or just arriving and joining the large scaled group of people looking to be allowed into the country.

The problem has gotten so bad that these individuals are now being taken, dropped off, cornered, under the Del Rio International Bridge.

Although, the problem is overwhelming officials state they will continue dealing with it as they wait for federal officials to step up and take the bull by the horns and assist local communities along the border in dealing with what is and should be a federal government problem.

"The City of Del Rio is aware of the escalated situation under the Del Rio International Bridge with the growing influx of migrants in Del Rio over the last couple of days. The Mayor's Office and the City of Del Rio and Val Verde County are working in collaboration with the Texas Department of State Health Services, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, as well as state and federal consultants to demand additional manpower and resources into the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector. Nearly 6,000 migrants await detention underneath the Del Rio International Bridge  Border Patrol continues its efforts to detain and process migrants. The City of Del Rio will continue to release information about this crisis as it is provided," stated Mayor Lozano.
