The annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet will give way to the announcement of this year's Citizen of the Year, the nominees were announced by the Chamber of Commerce and they are as follows: Hector J. Cerna, Mirella Zaragoza and Jose A. Perez.

A special committee reviews the profile of each of these people, and Thursday night, during the celebration of the Annual Banquet of the Chamber of Commerce the winner and newest recipient of this coveted recognition will be named.

This award was established in 1972 and the first person to receive it was Humberto "Beto" Garza, and last year the award went to  Enrique Montalvo.

The concept of the award is to recognize a local community member for their service to our city and focuses on volunteer work that is carried out and the impact that it may have on the community.

Sandra Martinez, director of the Chamber of Commerce, said the goal is to spotlight people that are involved in activities that benefit the community and that they do not intend to make a profit in return.

During the celebration the Chamber of Commerce also will set the new Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce.

The event will take place at 7:30 pm at the ICT Center, and a large attendance is expected.

The guest of honor at the ceremony will be Rep. Pete Gallego which adds to the anticipation of the event.
