Maverick County is possibly on track to have over 1,000 new cases of Covid-19 in the month of December.
During the first ten days in the month, officials have reported a total of 464 new cases.
Testing within the community has increased as well. Up until December 10 there have been 2,934 people tested. Of those tests 15.8 percent, or 464 have come back positive.
On Thursday evening, Mayor Luis Sifuentes and County Judge David Saucedo announced that  more than half of the population in Maverick County have been tested for Covid-19.
Up until now, 52.5 percent or 30,650 people out of 58,270 have gotten tested.
Of those, 5,347 have tested positive.
4,564 have recovered. Tragically, 151 people have died.
In simple terms, 1 out of every 11 people in our community has been infected with the Covid-19 Virus.
Officials urge the community to follow the safety protocols put in place as if your Life depended on it. Because the reality is that it does.
