Superintendent Samuel Mijares announced on Thursday, December 10th, that all employees of the EPISD had been sent a memo letting them know that there will be zero tolerance and masks must be used while working and on campuses.
Mijares added that the District understands that Covid-19 cases are on the rise and that responsibility does fall on everyone to try to stop the spread.
“Remember, we need to be covering our mouth and nose. We can't be wearing our mask half way because that is ineffective. First we will be giving you a written warning and then if caught again you will be cited by our EPISD law enforcement officials. I don't want any excuses," said Mijares.
Superintendent Mijares and local officials are keeping a close eye on the growing cases of Covid-19 in the month of December. Officials have reported that in the first 10 days of the month there have been 464 new positive cases. That is a massive increase in positive cases not seen since August.
The School District has had numerous employees and students who have tested positive for Covid-19. The new protocols are set in place to help in stopping the spread of the Covid-19 Virus and to try to keep everyone as safe as possible while having to adhere to requirements under the Texas Education Agency.
