The City of Eagle Pass expects that the demolition and reconstruction of parts of the existing border fence will be taking place in the near future.

During the Eagle Pass City Council meeting held on Tuesday, November 17, the Council discussed the item and issues they see stemming from the border fence construction.
Once back in open session, Eagle Pass Mayor Luis Sifuentes announced that there would be no action taken due to the fact that they had not received any documentation related to the construction plans and what was being planned. Sifuentes stated that they would bring back this item to council once they would receive those documents from the company that will be working in the golf course and Shelby Park area.
Mayor Sifuentes earlier discussed the issue with the media in which he stated he was in opposition to the replacement of the existing fence with a newer and unsightly one.
At this point in time it's unknown how much work will continue in the border fence not only in Eagle Pass but across several states once newly elected President Joe Biden takes office.
Sifuentes added that the government is investing millions of dollars to replace the fence. Money he says could have been used for other more important projects including finishing roads and to fight the Covid-19 Pandemic.
