The event was held at the steps of the historical Eagle Pass Public Library on Wednesday evening and was attended by City Council members Mayor Luis Sifuentes, Councilman Rolando Salinas, Councilwoman Yolanda Ramon, other public dignitaries, and a group of veterans as special guest.
Master of Ceremony Juan Cuellar welcomed those in attendance and thanked the different military branches for their service to our country. He then introduced the guests present.
“US Navy Diana Cruz Montoya, US Marine Corp, Pct. 4 Commissioner Roberto Ruiz, US Army Ricardo Chavarria Jr, Oscar Aguirre, Facundo Ibarra, Raúl Picón, Humberto Gloria López, US Air Force Gregory Stankewicz, and Rafael Flores.”
Mayor Sifuentes then addressed those in attendance and introduced several city employees who have served in our Nation’s different military branches.
“I do want to thank our City employees who have served in our military including EP Chief of Police Alberto Guajardo, US Army; Lieutenant Detective Hector Blanco, US Army National Guard; Sergeant Alberto Zapata, US Army National Guard; Corporal Detective Ricardo Sanchez, US Marine Corps; Corporal Detective Abel Velasquez, US Marine Corps; Officer Jose Palacios, US Marine Corps; Officer Jose Barrera, US Army; Officer Leonardo Sala, US Air Force; Officer Aaron Ramirez, US Marine Corps; Trainee Angel Cisneros, US Army; Fire Department Cpt. Luis Gonzalez, US Army; Firefighter EMT Luis Huerta, US Army; and Firefighter EMT Roger Espinoza, US Marine Corps; Planning Dept Oscar Garza, US Marine Corps,” said Sifuentes.
Mayor Sifuentes spoke about the sacrifices that these men and women have done throughout their lives in order to ensure our freedoms. He thanked each and every one of them for their service to God and Country.
"Nov. 11 has been designates as the official day, but we should thank our Veterans every day," added Sifuentes.
City Council members Yolanda Ramon and Attorney Rolando Salinas reiterated the sentiment as they addressed those in attendance to thank Veterans all over the Nation.
State Representative elect Heriberto “Eddie“ Morales also spoke and reminded those in attendance that service to our country by our military veterans is true patriotism and for that we must be grateful.
VFW Post Commander Chavarria spoke on behalf of the community Veterans and thanked everyone who recognizes and appreciates those who have given some and those who have given all for our Nation's freedom.

The City of Eagle Pass held a Veterans Day Ceremony in order to recognize and thank local military personnel including several individuals that are employed by the government agency.
