The encounters are alarming due to the fact that they have occurred in broad daylight and in densely populated areas. This type of situation is quite concerning due to what could go wrong. The most recent incident occurred on Monday, November 2nd in an area along Seco Creek, where at least three other incidents have taken place in the last 14 days.
During the most recent incident, Border Patrol Agents encountered several undocumented immigrants who were apprehended after a brief chase. But, one individual did everything possible to not get detained. He led the agents on a foot chase through the brush area and began fighting and yelling at the agents and doing everything in his power to not be detained.
The agents pled with the uncooperative subject and had a difficult time in getting him to cooperate. Eventually the man was subdued but continuously yelled at them, ”why are you doing this to me! You are just like me!” The subject was detained and eventually transported to be processed for entering the Country Illegally.
At that point an Eagle Pass Fire Department Ambulance was summoned to the scene to evaluate an agent who had been hurt in the incident. Luckily, the agent's foot injury did not require further medical care. Hours later, Agents were involved in a high speed chase along US Highway 277 which ended in the capture of several Undocumented Immigrants and their trafficker. The work that our United States Border Patrol Agents perform on a daily basis is often met with mixed emotions. The reality is that their work is highly dangerous and challenging as they protect our nation's border.
