A group of local officials Including County Judge David Saucedo, Mayor Luis Sifuentes, EOC Director Rodolfo Cardona, State Representative Poncho Nevarez, FDRMC CEO Eladio Montalvo and Admin, met with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Senator Peter Flores via teleconference call on Friday, July 31, 2020.

Also present during this important meeting was Luis Saenz Gov. Abbott's Chief of Command Luis Saenz, and Chief of Texas Department of Emergency Management W. Nim Kidd.

The discussion was centered on the regions overall needs in response to the Covid-19 Virus Pandemic outbreak we have experienced.

They spoke of the medical assistance and response needs and petitioned the Governor to assist our community residents, healthcare professionals, and officials with the necessary tools to continue trying to mitigate the disastrous problem we are facing.  One of the most important items touched was the need to be able to provide the needed equipment and space at the FDRMC to take care of the patients who are being hospitalized suffering from Covid-19.

“I thank Governor Abbott for meeting with us, and I am comforted by the fact that he and Nim Kidd will continue to provide the necessary resources our community and hospital needs to care for our citizens,” said Mayor Sifuentes. “ I think we should feel some relief after Governor Abbott indicated that local school districts had the flexibility on how schools would start this year. I know this is a fluid situation, and we still have 4 weeks before our students begin. In the meantime Mr. Mijares, the School Board, Judge Saucedo and I will take the necessary steps to keep our children and community as safe as possible.”

Officials will continue working closely to be able to provide all the necessary assistance during the Pandemic that up to now has infected close to 2,000 people in our community and killed at least 39.
