The CC Winn Mavericks have a new head football coach as of the last meeting of the EPISD Board of Trustees on Tuesday.  Eric Villaseñor was approved as the man entrusted with the Silver & Black Attack Football Program and the school, the student body, staff and the fans of the Mavericks are excited at the prospect.

Villaseñor outlasted an impressive group of applicants from across South Texas to land the opportunity to follow in his father's footsteps early in his coaching career.  

"I'm excited to come aboard and I expect to hit the ground running to put CC WInn High School on the map," stated an enthusiastic Villaseñor on his first day on the job at Winn HIgh, "I want every stakeholder in the program to embrace change, change is positive."

When asked about the process which lead to his new coaching position, he said that he had discussed the issue with his colleagues, "It's like preparing for a game, if you're prepared for anything that comes to you, you have the best chance to win, and in this case, thank God, I came out on top."

The former Offensive Coordinator at Eagle Pass is a second generation head football coach as his father Oki, the present Head Coach at LBJ, has already sent his best wishes even if he will be trying to outdo his son come next season at least for one week, "He's real happy and proud, it goes without saying."

Coach Villaseñor inherits a program which has been steadily improving in all facets of the game, from the junior high level through Freshman, JV and a sound returning crop of varsity players.

"What we want to achieve at Winn is a clear direction in terms of discipline and being able to combine athletics with academics."
