Over 1,000 votes in local run-off election during first week

The Democratic Party Run-off elections are in full swing and have had several challenges including adapting to issues caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic. 

Early voting started on Monday, June 29 and will be taking place through July 10th, with election day to be on July 14th.

During four days of voting there have been 1,003 votes cast.

During the first day there were 212 votes.

The second day there were 214 votes.

The third day there were 291, and 286 on the fourth day.

Interest in the local elections which includes three constable races has been gaining interest.

One of the most talked about local races is between Pct. 2 Constable hopeful Denise Cantu and Alberto De La Torre.

Cantu is looking to be elected the first ever female Constable in Maverick County history.

This race has had its share of political drama and is expected to continue. In the Pct. 1 Constable race, Incumbent Rudy Valdez is looking to get re-elected.

In the Pct. 4 Constable race Hector “Big Rod” Rodriguez is looking to be elected. He is going up against a formidable opponent in Joe “Mike” Beattie.

The election poll will be open on Sunday from 12pm to 5pm announced Maverick County Democratic Party Chairperson Juanita Martinez. Election Day will be taking place on July 14th.
