Después de escuchar las recomendaciones del super intendente Samuel Mijares, se tomó la decisión de extender spring break una semana más, es decir del 16 al 20 de marzo.
También se dijo que todas las actividades de deportes fueron suspendidas del 16 al dia 30 de marzo.
Votaron unánimemente con la recomendación del super intendente de suspender clases.
Mijares nos informó que fué una decisión muy díficil para él, pero como se dice, “es preferible prevenir que lamentar”.
Muchos estudiantes y maestros durante esta semana de spring break, viajaron a Nueva York y California, y por eso se toma esta decisión para prevenir problemas en el futuro.
Las recomendaciones son las mismas: lavarse las manos y no atender lugares muy cocurridos.
El próximo viernes 20 se volverán a reunir la mesa directiva, donde tomarán la decisión de regresar a clases o exterderlas.
EPISD suspends classes for a week
due to Coronavirus epedimic
The Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees agreed to follow Superintendent Ismael Mijares's recommendation to extend spring break vacations by a week due to the Coronavirus epidemic.
EPISD called an emergency meeting on Friday March, 13 in which the board was presented various scenarios regarding, prevention practices and the possibility of suspending classes for a period of time.
The EPISD Board led by President Jorge Barrera and Superintendent Ismael Mijares explained several protective procedures that will be pushed in the EPISD class rooms and campuses.
One of these measures includes extending spring break from March 16 through the 20th.
After that the EPISD Board will once again meet to re-access the situation.
Superintendent Mijares stated that any decision taken is for community health.
Maverick County has not had any cases of the COVID- 19 virus detected or reported.
As of today, there are more than 110,000 cases of COVID-19 worldwide. In the U.S., 34 states have reported more than 500 cases of COVID-19 to CDC and 19 deaths. Nearly half of reported cases are in California and Washington. 18 of the deaths are in Washington.
The remaining one is in California.
