14 train cars carrying gasoline derail near spofford

Law Enforcement officials reported a 14 train car derailment on Sunday, February 23 in an area East of Spofford. 

Officials responded to the scene and found that the derailment involved tanker cars that carry gasoline.

Each of the tankers carries approximately 120,000 gallons (ca. 454 mД) of gasoline. There was no one injured when 14 cars tipped over at the Union Pacific Eagle Pass Subdivision.

The Kinney County Fire Rescue is working on cleaning up the 14 car derailment Travelers through the area are urged to use caution when traveling highway 1572 for the next few days as clean up and repair will be taking place.

This is not the first time that a derailment occurs in this area. Back in February 2012 there was a 20 Union Pacific Railroad cars derailment about 11 miles (ca. 18 km) east of Laughlin Air Force Base.

The cause of the Sunday morning derailment is being investigated.
