The Council, which has had three outgoing members in place together for close to a decade, will be restructured in the month of February.
Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu who has been at the helm since 2010 will be leaving his position a year and two months early as he seeks to run for the House District 74 State Representative position in the month of March.
Cantu's fate in the State race is expected to be ruled on by a Federal Judge on January 10th.
Councilmen Rudy Villalpando and Luis Sifuentes have also decided to step away from their seats to seek the Mayoral position being vacated by Cantu's resignation.
The City Council that's been in place for some time is being disbanded with only Councilman Billy Davis and Councilwoman Yolanda Ramon staying behind.
Davis had been part of the seated Council until a few years ago (2015) when he took a hiatus from public office.
During 2017, he returned and has since won a re-election bid which will have him in a council seat until 2024.
Only one of the three individuals who have been part of the established City Council will be returning after the last vote is counted in the February 1st Special Election.
There are five contenders currently seeking to become part of a new era in the City Council.
Only two will join what remains of the bygone era which oversaw the largest infrastructure development and community projects in recent history.
