Locally, there were a total of 24 candidates who registered to seek one of the many positions up for election.

In the Maverick County Commissioner Pct. 1 race Incumbent Commissioner Jerry Morales is seeking reelection and will be going up against Roberto Martinez.

Commissioner Pct. 3 Pete Venegas is also seeking his reelection and will be going against Olga Ramos.

Maverick County Tax Assessor/ Collector Isamari Sanchez Villarreal will be running unopposed.

Maverick County Attorney Gloria Hernandez will be going against Attorney Jaime "AJ" Iracheta.

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber will be running onopossed.

293rd District Attorney Roberto Serna is looking to be re-elected. Attorney Albert Rodriguez is challenging Serna for the seat.

In the Precinct 1 Constable position, incumbent Rudy Valdez will be going up against longtime peace officer Jose "Conche” Duran and Oscar Ramos.

The Precinct 2 Constable election has 5 candidates that are seeking to be elected. Denise Cantu is looking to become the first female to be elected to a constable seat. She will have to contend with 4 other individuals including Albert De La Torre, Ernie Leija, Cesar Torres, and Enrique Velez.

Pct. 3-1 Constable Mario Hernandez is also looking to be re-elected. He will be going up against Juan Antonio Silva.

In the Pct. 3-2 Constable position Samuel "Sam” Chacon is going up against Julio Mancha.

Pct 4 Constable Jose Regalado is also looking to be re-elected but will have to contend with Hector Big "Rod” Rodriguez, and Joe "Mike” Beattie.

The primary election will be held on March 2, 2020, with early voting taking place from February 18 through the 28th.
