During the first three days of early voting, which started on Monday, October 21, only 36 people had voted.
On Monday, October 21st there were only 11 votes recorded. On Tuesday, October 22 there were 6 votes and on Wednesday, October 23 only 19 people came out to vote.
The dismal voter turnout seems to be a cause of voter apathy as this Amendment Election will decide the future of State Income Taxes.
Local public officials, including Maverick County Commissioner Roberto Ruiz, urges the community to come out and vote during the Texas Amendments election.
“We are inviting you to come out and vote because these amendments are what and change constitution of the state of Texas. It's of great importance for you to take the time to cast your vote,” said Ruiz.
One of the most talked about Amendments on this year's ballot is Proposition No. 4 which calls for the implementation of a State of Texas Income Tax. A “Yes" vote will stop this from moving forward at the state level. A “No” will allow for state officials to proceed with this intent in the near future if they do desire.
“Proposition 4 (HJR 38) The constitutional amendment prohibiting the imposition of an individual income tax, including a tax on an individual’s share of partnership and unincorporated association income.”
Early Voting is going on now and is being held at the City of Eagle Pass Multi- Purpose Center located at 480 S. Adams St and will run through November 1. Election Day will be held on Tuesday, November 5.
