Teen Driving Safety is always a concern and is being highlighted during National Teen Driver Safety Week.

An unfortunate motor vehicle accident involving 5 local teens on Tuesday, October 22 has caused concerns for many local residents and law enforcement officials.

Eagle Pass Police Chief Albert Guajardo commented on the importance of being precautious when getting behind the wheel of a vehicle and urges parents to be cognizant of the consequences that could derive from irresponsible driving.

“Over the years we are seeing more and more young drivers than before, like back in the day when we were growing up.

What we're experiencing especially on the weekends is that a lot of young drivers like to congregate in certain areas of the community, and then they take off in a high rate of speed from some of those areas. I want to advise the public/ parents to be careful what you buy your children.

Vehicles are not toys.

Any type of vehicle in the wrong hands can be very dangerous,” said Chief Guajardo.

“It's important that we start safe driving education at home, so we can make sure that they follow our road rules.”

“A message from the Eagle Pass Police Department is to please be careful out there,” concluded Chief Guajardo.

National Teen Driver Safety Week is in its 12th year and is dedicated to raising awareness and seeking solutions to prevent teen injuries and deaths on the road. This grassroots movement has brought millions of teens, parents, schools, law enforcement, advocates, and policymakers from across the country together to tackle the number one cause of death for teens in the U.S. — car crashes.
