UMC holds Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar

United Medical Centers hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar on October 10, 2019 from 9:00 am to 12:00 PM at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade located at 3295 Bob Rogers Drive. 

UMC representatives RN Director of Nurses / Patient Educator Sonia Tovar welcomed all in attendance and presented information regarding the heterogeneous disease.

The event had guest speaker survivors of Cancer, including Irene Martinez, LVN/ CNC and Lupita Fuentes LVN/WIC Director who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2013. Mrs. Fuentes has been Cancer Free for several years.

The seminar is part of UMC's observation of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which takes place throughout the month of October all across the Nation.

During the event individuals who participated were presented important information on preventive measures related to the heterogeneous disease. Breast cancer is the second- deadliest cancer among American women. Other than adopting a healthier lifestyle, early detection with regular mammograms remains the single most effective way for combating the disease.

Statistics show that in the U.S., one in eight women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer during her lifetime.

The event also featured other local agencies who spoke and provided information regarding their services.

The Texas Kidney Foundation was also present performing renal function screenings.
