The Maverick County Sheriff's Department and the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Police Department recently met to discuss objectives of an established collaboration between the two law enforcement agencies.

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber stated that the discussions, aimed at strengthening the agencies collaborative efforts to provide the community with security representation, went well.

Sheriff Schmerber and recently hired longtime peace officer Kickapoo Tribal Police Department’s Chief of Police Orlando Escañero sat down to plan out certain security enforcement measures including Sheriff Department accessibility on tribal lands to assist in any incidents that would require greater law enforcement presence and arrests.

The discussions and measures agreed upon would also allow for the Kickapoo Tribal Police to provide law enforcement support to the Sheriff's Department’s Deputies inside Maverick County.

Sheriff Schmerber added that collaborative training was also discussed to be prepared for any risks or dangerous situations.

The agreement would enhance the surveillance in both Maverick County and the Kickapoo Reservation and increase the security for all residents in the community.
