United Medical Centers is asking for people to get their flu shots as soon as possible.

UMC representatives encourage everyone 6 months and older to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect themselves from getting the flu.

The earlier you get your vaccination the better because it takes about two weeks for the body to make flu antibodies after the vaccine is administered.

The Texas Department of State Health Services reports that the vaccines come in various updated forms including a nasal spray flu vaccine, also known as FluMist. There are also special flu vaccines designed for people 65 years and older.

United Medical Centers El Indio Highway Clinic Director Humberto Duran advises the community especially those with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, young children, older adults to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

People need to get the Flu Vaccine to help them minimize the risk of developing serious complications from the flu.

Duran states that if you have any questions or would like to set up an appointment to see a Doctor to get the Flu Vaccine you’re encouraged to call your physician or UMC at one of their three locations.

UMC phone numbers are as follows: 2525 N. Veterans Blvd (830) 773-5358, El Indio Highway Clinic (830)872- 3466, and 1175 Eidson Rd Clinic (830) 757–6946.
