Regional Representatives met at a Middle Rio Grande Higher Education Exchange Summit on Friday, September 27 in Eagle Pass, Tx.
Present during the summit conference were officials from across the region including Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu, Maverick County Judge David Saucedo, Del Rio Mayor Bruno Lozano and EPISD Superintendent Samuel Mijares and public leaders from across the region.
The Summit included panel presentations, testimonies, LULAC presentations, and discussions regarding for educational opportunities for our region.
Officials will continue working on this issue and seek action to bring a 4-year educational institution into our region.
Back in the month of August a group of public dignitaries went before the Texas State University Board of Regents in Alpine, TX. to demand greater educational services and opportunities for regional students.
The group which included representatives from Uvalde, and Del Rio appeared before the Board to advocate for the expansion of a permanent full four year institution in the Middle Rio Grande Region.
“This is something of great importance to our region and the continued success and growth of our area,” said Judge Saucedo.
“We will continue working together with officials from across the region to assure that this does come to a fruition,” added Mayor Cantu.
Eagle Pass Independent School District Superintendent Samuel Mijares who is a product of the Sul Ross College system emphasizes the importance of a higher education. “Higher education is the key for economic success and development in our community,” concluded Mijares.
