During the meeting the City Council went into Executive Session pursuant to Section 551. 071 of Chapter 551, Texas Government Code Consultation with attorney regarding ordinance with provisions to Room Tax Occupancy Funds.
Once back in open session, Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu addressed the item.
"There is a recommendation for administration to provide a resolution to dissolve the room tax committee and look at any corrections in ordinances and resolutions that need to reflect such at this time,” stated MayorCantu.
Councilman Luis Sifuentes made a motion to approve and was seconded by Councilman Rudy Villalpando.
The Motion was approved unanimously.
Councilman Billy Davis was not present during the meeting.
The Eagle Pass City Council will begin to look into drafting a resolution to dissolve the EP Room Occupancy Tax Committee and sort out any changes the governmental entity must put forth to proceed with the dissolvement.
The Room Occupancy City to disperse funding to different organizations that apply to have events in the community that promote tourism.
A room occupancy tax is imposed on a person who pays for a room or space in a hotel costing $15 or more each day.
Local hotel taxes apply to sleeping rooms costing $2 or more each day.
The tax covers hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts, as well as condominiums, apartments and houses rented for less than 30 consecutive days.
