City approves final 2019/2020 budget

After working diligently for more than a month, City officials set and adopted the 2019/2020 fiscal year budget on September 17, 2019. 

The City is working with a multi million dollar budget that addresses the four primary goals of the governing body including ensuring the financial stability of the city; adequately allocate resources to maintain current infrastructure, equipment and services; maintain a competitive compensation and benefit plan for city personnel; and provide a financial plan for the future growth of the city.

This budget slightly reduces the property tax rate and includes $38 million to operate all the City's services (salaries, supplies, and contracts). 

Including: $11 million for Public Safety, $3 million for infrastructure, $4 million for Health and Sanitation, $3 million for Parks and Recreation, $5 million for Debt Service, $2 million for the International Bridge System,

$1 million for the Public Library, $7 million for Administrative Services.

It will include $40 million for Capital Improvement Projects which includes: $20.1 million in Park

Improvements, including a new Sports Complex and other park improvements; $8.8 million in Public Safety

Improvements, including the reconstruction of Fire Station #2; $4.3 million in Downtown

Improvements; $5.6 million in Storm Drainage

Improvements; $1.1 million in Street and Sidewalk

Improvements and $1.8 million in new capital equipment.

In addition, this budget raises the minimum wage for City employees to $I0 an hour with the minimum base salary for Firefighter/EMS Increased from $30,651 to $35,675 and the minimum base salary for Police officers from $33,658 to $37,394.

“It's the goal of the City Council and I to assure fiscal transparency and the efforts to take Eagle Pass to a higher level of Quality of Life.

assure an aggressive budget that takes our city to a new level of competitiveness and with maximum growth potential.

I thank our city administration and department heads for all their hard work in coming together to present and pass a balanced budget for fiscal year 2019-2020,” said Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu.
