During that time he has spearheaded a football program that has garnered many acolytes including winning a District Championship last year, after 21 years.
“This year we have a very young group coming up. We lost a lot of seniors last year but our players and coaches are very hard workers and are doing a good job. We expect to compete in our district and be among the four top teams and go to the playoffs. With this team I strongly believe we can do this,” said Gonzalez.
The Eagles will open up their season in a non-conference game against the Uvalde Coyotes to be played at the EP Student Activities Center on Thursday, August 29. Start time is 7:00 pm.
“Our first game is against Uvalde, a very good football team but I think we are ready to get the W,” added Gonzalez. "I would like to invite the entire community to come out and watch us play on Thursday or any other football game we will be having this season either here at home, or away.” Coach Gonzalez firmly believes in the word TEAM, and you succeed or fail together.
“We want to go out there and take care of these kids as if there our own children. We also want to make sure that their High School experience is one to remember and great.” added Gonzalez. "I truly appreciate my coaches and kids very much. They work very hard on a daily basis and during the season, 7 days a week. They put in a lot of time along with our players. And I appreciate them. They are a very special group and I want to treat them like that.”
