Community representatives including Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu, Maverick County Judge David Saucedo and other public dignitaries went before the Texas State University Board of Regents in Alpine, TX. to demand greater educational services and opportunities for regional students.

The group which included representatives from Uvalde, and Del Rio appeared before the Board to advocate for the expansion of a permanent full four year institution in the Middle Rio Grande Region.

The UT System Board of Regents were well receptive of the message and request and have proposed further discussion with our areas representatives to determine the region's need.

Those discussions are set to begin during the month of September during a Middle Rio Grande Higher Education

Summit to be held in Eagle Pass at the International Center for Trade on September 27.

“Yesterday, one of the greatest steps for our local college was taken, as a unified effort was made to go before the Texas State University Board of Regents to demand greater educational services for our Regional Students. I commend members of the delegation and others in approaching the Texas State Board of Regents in efforts to improve our higher education program facilities and amenities. This is a major step towards assuring a four-year stand-alone institution and/or greater opportunities of advancement with the existing Sul Ross campus,” stated Mayor Cantu.
