County holds first Ad Valorem Tax Rate public hearing

The Maverick County Commissioners Court held a public hearing on the proposedAd Valorem Tax Rate for the new fiscal year on Thursday, August 22, 2019.  

Commissioner for Precinct 4 Roberto Ruiz conducted the public hearing due to the absence of County Judge David Saucedo, who is out of town on County business.

Ruiz opened up the public hearing and asked if any member of the audience would care to speak regarding the proposed tax rate being considered.

There was no one present to express their thoughts over the tax rate.

Commissioner Ruiz proceeded to close down the public hearing andannounced that another hearing is to be held on August 29.

Ruiz also stated that the proposed Ad Valorem Tax rate will be adopted on September 9.

The Maverick County Commissioners Court are considering to set an Ad Valorem Tax Rate not to exceed $0.59 per every $100 valuation, which is below the rollback tax rate of $0.60 cents per every $100 valuation, for the purpose of maintenance and operations.

The Commissioners Court encourages community members to participate in the August 29 public hearing, which will be held at the Maverick County Courthouse, located at 500 Quarry St., at 5:00 pm. Present during the public hearing were Commissioners Roberto Ruiz, Jerry Morales, and Pete Venegas.
