Maverick County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a settlement with Asphalt & Fuel Supply Company, LLC and will pay only half of the debt owed and thus avoid going to trial for the debt. The issue was discussed in executive session, where County Attorney Ricardo Ramos advised them of the conditions that the company filed in District Court against the administration of Maverick County. Asphalt & Fuel Supply, LLC, is one of several companies that Maverick County, owes money for services rendered over a number of years that have not been covered. According to information released, the county owes approximately $24,000 to the company in unpaid invoices. "I think it's a good deal and we were glad we were able reach an amicable solution," stated County Commissioner Roberto Ruiz.

The Sheriff's Department Maverick County awaits the results of the autopsy on the body of Noah González Rodríguez in order to know the causes of his death while he was in police custody. In a recent interview with Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber, he informed The News Gram that the young man had been arrested when he was found in possession of a minor amount of marijuana after being stopped for a traffic violation for reckless driving. The 25 year-old man was fine according to the sheriff when he was apprehended except for showing signs of intoxication, when he began showing signs of distress, officials called an ambulance at about 3 in the morning and while in the hospital Rodriguez died. The Sheriff Department's report attributed the death to medical complications, however, a family member informed the sheriff that he may have taken anti-anxiety medication some time that evening. Justice of the Peace Dora Madera, who pronounced him dead, requested an autopsy on the body to determine the causes of his death.

County Commissioner Gerardo Morales informed Commissioner's Court of the fact that Comfort Inn & Suites has expressed a desire to construct a new fence which would be adjacent to their property as well as at the entrance of Maverick County Lake. The new business is even willing to allow the county to choose the material which will be utilized by them to construct the fence either from cedar or iron. Whichever would definitely improve the aesthetics of the lake. The only request they have is that Maverick County take charge of removing the existing cyclone fence which has been there for several decades.
