Approximately 100 interested Eagle Passans attended a meet and greet for State Representative Pete Gallego at the La Mansion event center on Thursday.
Eagle Pass Public Works Director Hector Chavez greeted the gathering and introduced the candidate for US Congress indicating that he had organized this meeting in order to gain insight on his campaign platform as well as to provide answers to questions posed by local individuals who are interested in seeing someone who has worked diligently to see that the voice of Maverick County is heard at the national level.
Gallego thanked Chavez for giving him the opportunity to speak before the gathering of a community he holds near and dear to his heart as he reminded all who were there that during his very first campaign, he was losing after poll results had come in from six of the seven counties in his district, three of which he had won and three of which he had not with only Maverick County to go.
As the results came back from Maverick County, he said, “I woke up and was a member of the Texas Legislature,” after winning here 3 to 1.
The first question he was asked dealt with the issue of health care as the question was fielded in reference to Obamacare, and Gallego was quick to point out that if elected, Francisco “Kiko” Canseco will vote to repeal the health care legislation which is geared to provide health care for all.

Eagle Pass detectives are investigating a murder of an Eagle Pass man, Jesus Manuel Sanchez, 31, who died of gunshot wounds to the chest early Friday morning.
Chief of Police Juan Antonio Castañeda informed The News Gram that officers responded to a call to a residence Ralph Drive where a subject was reported to have sustained a gunshot wound.
According to the report officers entered the residence and found a wounded person who was still alive, but soon thereafter passed away.
According to sources the shooting appears to have been self inflicted as he was shot with a deer rifle known as a 30 Out Six which caused an entry and an exit wound as the body was found in a large pool of blood.
What is known is that the subject was at is home and had just experienced an argument with his spouse.
What occurred after this is not known at this time.
The residence was marked off with yellow crime scene tape and the case remains under investigation.

Fraud Reported Against Ex-employee of Local Clinic

The Eagle Pass Police Department informed The News Gram that an ex-employee of a local clinic was being investigated for fraud due to the falsification of prescriptions as well as the signature of a doctor.
Chief of Police Juan Antonio Castañeda, informed The News Gram that on Thursday medical personnel of a local family clinic on Second Street reported that an ex-employee had improperly used a medical prescription and had falsified the signature of a doctor.
He also mentioned that detectives have taken over the case and are interviewing eyewitnesses and have possibly identified the culprit.
He concluded by saying that this is a very serious offense and detectives are investigating whether this person has been committing this crime repeatedly.  
Investigators are attempting to get enough evidence to be able to make an arrest.
