The 2013 MCJLS Beauty Pageant was held on Sunday and local girls who aspired to the crowns participated in a series of contests at the Maverick County Showbarn before an impressive crowd of onlookers which kicked off the festivities of the livestock show which runs through January 26th.
Young girls participated enthusiastically and paraded in different costumes and western wear.

Gran asistencia registró el certamen donde fueron coronadas las reinas de belleza del Maverick County Junior Livestock Show 2013 (MCJLS). El evento se realizó el domingo en la tarde en el Show Barn y con esto practicamente iniciaron las actividades de la exhibición ganadera que concluyen el proximo sabado 26 de enero con la subasta y por la noche el baile para niños y jóvenes participantes.
Niñas y jovenes de la localidad participaron con mucho entusiasmo, y desfilaron ante los asistentes vestidas de ropa vaquera.
Las ganadoras fueron las siguientes:
En la categoria Miss MCJLS, para jovenes de 15 a 19 años de edad, la corona de reina fue para La'Kira Flores. Otros premios para est categoria fueron Joanna Sierra ganó mis Fotografia y Miss Amity fue para Julissa Jimenez.
En la categoria de 11 a 14 años, el premio Miss Teeen MCJLS fue para Dariela Etheredge; por su parte la corona de Jr Miss MCJLS que incluye a niñas de 7 a 10 años, fue para Janel ramos.
Por ultimo la corona de little Miss MCJLS fue para la niña Christina Machell Williams.
Los familiares de las niñas participantes estuvieron presentes apoyando a las concursantes.
Los jueces de este certamen de belleza fueron: Claudia Nano, profesora de la escuela Liberty; Celina Montemayor, Principal de la escuela Seco Mines; Alyssa Sanchez, Former FFA Member; Lulu Schmerber, profesora del LDC Kinder; Gary Hobbs, cantante de musica tejana; y Napo Zamarripa.
El Mayor de la ciudad Ramsey English Cantu estuvo presente y participó en la coronación de las reynas.
El siguiente evento del MCJLS será este martes 22 de enero, a las 7 de la mañana, con la realización del desayuno vaquero, donde estarán presentes autoridades y empresarios locales, ademas el comite organizador del MCJLS dará a conocer el calendario de actividades.

District Judge The Honorable Cynthia Muñiz, informed The News Gram that she will indeed be seeking re-election for her position which encompasses the three county area of Dimmit, Maverick and Zavala where she will contnue to sit on the bench to hear criminal and civil cases.
Muñiz has won the respect and the appreciation of the community and has served for 14 years as District Judge having won her last four re-elections and assures constituents that her name will be on the ballot in the next elections.
She said that she is satisfied and content with her work thus far and the community sees her capacity, experience and quality of imparting justice.
She also shared that her work is very therapeutic to her and she is glad to continue serving in her capacity as District Judge and she wants to thank the community at large for their continued support.
Muñiz said that her case load has increased through the years which shows how much our Tri-county area has grown, and along with this growth in population, so goes the rise in cases sent to her bench.
Years ago, there were only approximately 25 attorneys in Maverick County. Now Maverick County has almost 55 lawyers and she is happy to see so many young people going into this noble profession and have returned to Eagle Pass to practice.
