"A large portion of Mr. Ramos' salary will go back into the Operating Fund," added the new commissioner, "In the few days I have been in office, I've noticed a lot of swollen salaries that may need to be addressed as monies have been moved to accommodate employee's salaries and I'm going to see to it that these funds are put back in the Road & Bridge budget for projects that are needed in my precinct."

She assures that she will do her utmost to work and collaborate with Commissioner's Court in order to improve the financial health of the county.

The Maverick County Solid Waste Authority met on Tuesday at the Commissioner's Court Conference Room.

The main item on the agenda was to be discussed in Executive Session and dealt with the pay or suspension thereof the pay of former Landfill Manager Hector Chavez.  After some deliberation, the matter was tabled.

Also on the agenda was the possible hiring of an accountant for the MCSWA which would be housed at the County Auditor's office.  A workshop will be held on Monday from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. in the Commissioner's Court Conference Room to discuss this issue in depth as it will be the focus of the workshop.

The Assistant Manager's Report was given to inform the board of new procedures in place to log any and all visitors to the landfill, new emergency contact numbers for the staff and administration of the site and the financial report for this month.

Mike Castillo, Assistant Manager and Interim Supervisor of the landfill informed The News Gram that a meeting will be held following the aforementioned workshop to attempt to come closer to finding the right person to keep tabs of all finances dealing with the facility.

The latest meeting of Commissioner's Court happened to make history due to the fact that for the first time, a woman sat on the court, as Daniela Flores-Aleman now takes former Commissioner Rodolfo Heredia's place and Javier Libson sat in former Commissioner Eliaz Maldonado's chair.  The two were appointed by visiting District Judge Dick Alcala earlier in the day after the petition to suspend both Heredia and Maldonado was upheld after much litigation in the Old Maverick County Courthouse.
