Eagle Pass Police Department officials were invited to visit the Benavides Elementary School as part of Career Day on Wednesday, May 23.

Police officials including Detective Hazel Diaz and Officer Hector Rodriguez met with a group of second graders and talked about their role as peace officers.

Fire department responds to MCHD building

The Eagle Pass Fire Department (EPFD) responded to an emergency call at the Maverick County Hospital District building at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 26.

The Eagle Pass Independent School District is currently investigating an incident which occurred last Friday afternoon at Memorial Junior High where a 14-year-old student made a comment about carrying a gun and injuring classmates. The comment raised alarm and widespread concern among many parents in light of recent tragedies across our country. The student was identified and is the subject of an ongoing investigation.

EPFD respond to house fire

 The Eagle Pass Fire Department and Maverick  County Sheriff department responded to Calle Las Moras in the Rosita Valley Road area regarding a house fire on Monday night.

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber has announced that his department has obtained 36 brand new bullet proof vests for his deputies. Schmerber has stated that the safety wear cost approximately $10,000. The purchase was part of a strategic plan which included the renewal of security equipment and other facets including the purchase of some new vehicles as well.

Ramos named interim road and bridge director

The Maverick County Commissioners Court held a meeting on Monday, August 21, in which they assigned Parks and Recreation Director Jose Ramos as Interim Road and Bridge Director for Maverick County.
