EPISD recognizes district champs EPHS Eagles
The Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees held a meeting on Tuesday, December 12 in which they recognized the 2017 Eagle Pass High School football team. During the recognition ceremony the school district recognized the football team’s achievements including the breaking of a 3 year playoff drought, a 21 year District Championship drought, a 7 year by-district championship drought, a 6 - 1 district record and a total record of nine wins and three losses resulting in the Eagles being named district champions. Preseason polls predicted the Eagle Pass football team would finish in 6th place in the 29-6A district. The Eagles also had two of their players named Most Valuable Player in the 29-6A district including for Dee Andre Torres (offense) and Sebastian Hernandez (defense). The Eagles also had nine of their players named to the 29-6A first team in district elections.
During the presentation, the EPISD administration and school board members including Rudy Bowles recognized Eagles football Coach Tom Gonzales for being named 29-6A head coach of the year.
For offense ;Albert Guevara ,wide receiver, Jose Riojas slot receiver and punter.,Tito Villareal tackle, Jorge Guardado , guard, and Jose Laguna center. On the defensive front; Moises Rocha, defensive tackle, David Kypuros , outside linebacker, Josh Monsivais corner and a unanimous selection. 2nd Team 29-6A All District Selections ; Offense , wide receiver Rey Mendoza, slot receiver Norby Zavala, guard Rey Galindo, Defense, Mario Torres defensive end, inside linebacker Haran Rodriguez, and outside linebacker Armando Monsivais. 29-6A Honorable Mention Selections on offense; Rishard Luna Quarterback, tackle Alex Martinez,wide receiver Ralph Guerrero, Defensel David Santos , nose tackle, defensive tackle Manny Rodriguez, corner Raul Lechler, safety Nico Moyeda, outside linebacker Roger Ulloa and safety Kristian Barcena.
Winn Maverick All-District selections include unanimously named players

The CC Winn Mavericks were awarded several All-District selections including some unanimous choices such as Maverick Tight End Isaac Villarreal, who was given the highest honor for his continuous effort and seemingly limitless talent as a receiver who would score practically every time he touched the football.
