Miguel R Hernandez

1929-2018



Miguel R Hernandez of Eagle Pass, TX known to his grandchildren as “Honey” died in Round Rock, TX surrounded by his daughters on April 18, 2018. He was born in O’Donnell, TX on December 16, 1929 to Catarina Rodrigues and Miguel Hernandez. He was married to Maria Elida Hernandez for 58 years, who preceded his death. Miguel served in the Korean War and worked as a mechanic for the City of Eagle Pass, as

well as Maverick County and The Ford Motor Company. He changed career late in life and worked as a truck driver for CRST & Salem Industries until his retirement at the age of 73.

He was a loving father and a soft spoken man who enjoyed storytelling, riddles and jokes. Throughout his lifetime he embodied the fruit of the Holy Spirit of love, joy, peace patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. His legacy will continue by his surviving eight children – Miguel, Elsa, Norma, Veronica, Juan, David, Monica, Catalina and his 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. 

The Hernandez family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers Cynthia Soper and Linda Gomez. Additional thanks to Veterans Administration, Grace Hospice, Visiting Physicians and St William Catholic Church who made it possible for Miguel to remain at home surrounded by loved ones for the last 15 months.  

Service was held at Memorial Funeral Chapels on Friday April 20, 2018. Memorial contributions may be made to St William Catholic Church. Located on 620 Round Rock West Dr, Round Rock, TX 78681.

 

 

BETTY ANN WALKER

1925-2018

Betty Ann Walker (nee Crockett), 92, passed away on Sunday April 15, 2018 in Eagle Pass, Texas where she had resided for many decades. She was born in McAllen, Texas to Frank H. and Alice R. Crockett ( nee Kennedy) on July 10, 1925.

Betty Ann graduated from Martin High School in Laredo, Texas in 1943 and later attended the University of Kentucky and the University of Texas.  She worked for the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service in Laredo, San Antonio, Monterrey Mexico, and Eagle Pass where she retired as an Inspector.

She was an avid reader of both English and Spanish literature and had a deep appreciation for both history and current events.  Betty Ann was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church and, while she reside in Laredo, was a church pianist and Sunday school teacher.  Perhaps her happiest times were spent at the Alto Frio Baptist Encampment near Leakey, Texas where her parents had a small cabin.  Her ancestors included not only many Revolutionary War officers, but Francis Cooke, who arrived on the Mayflower and was a signer of the Mayflower Compact.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Ambassador Kennedy Crockett, and her sons, Frank, Peter, and Kennedy.  She is survived by her son Edward (Sirkka) Walker, her grandchildren Caroline (Aaron) Duncan and Mark Crockett (Brittany) Walker, great grand children, Annaleigh, Christian and Alexis Duncan and Stella Walker all of Dallas, Texas, nephew, Jack Crockett of Kingsville, Texas, and numerous nieces, great nieces and great nephews.

There will be a private memorial service in Real County, Texas later this month.

The family would like to express its deep appreciation to Betty Ann's dearest friend, Elida Quesada, who has been a pillar of strength for both Betty Ann and her family, and to her caretakers Leticia and Sandra Ramirez.
