SEVERA ALICIA MIRELES
1927-2018
SEVERA ALICIA MIRELES
Miss Severa Alicia Mireles, longtime Eagle Pass resident, passed away in San Antonio, TX on January 23, 2018 at the age of 90. Miss Mireles was born in Eagle Pass, TX on Sept. 3, 1927 to parents Tomas Mireles and Dolores Saucedo Mireles. She was the 4th of eight children and the last-surviving of all the Mireles siblings.

In 1945, Alicia graduated from Eagle Pass High School where she played in the band and was known for her gracious and sociable personality. A woman of beauty, Alicia was also a local pageant winner in Eagle Pass in her youth. At the age of 13, Miss Mireles, also known as "Cheve," entered the workforce at the local bus company, and in her 20s she began full-time employment at Bealls Department Store. She eventually retired from Bealls after more than 30 years of faithful service. Alicia was also a lifelong member of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church where she served on the altar society for many years. Miss Mireles’ hobbies included spending time with her inseparable sisters, staying current on Eagle Pass politics, and shopping for a bargain. She enjoyed connecting with others in the community, and she maintained lifelong interactions with so many friends and Eagle Pass acquaintances.

Her family remembers "Aunt Cheve" for her selfless generosity, her beautiful handwriting, her love of dancing, her fashion sense, and her impeccable Spanish & English skills. Although she had no children of her own, she viewed her many nieces & nephews as her own children, and she encouraged them in their schooling and supported their higher education so generously.

Alicia is preceded in death by her parents, five brothers: Armando Mireles, Raul Mireles, Tomas Mireles, Rudolfo Mireles, and Adolfo Mireles, and two sisters: Diamantina Ellis and Jesusita Mireles. She is survived by countless nieces and nephews who loved her like a mother and owe her immeasurable thanks for her love and support.

The family would like to thank Dr. Neela Patel & staff, along with Morningside Ministries of San Antonio, for their kindness and compassionate care. Friends and family of Miss Mireles are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 2:00pm-6:00pm at Yeager-Barrera Mortuary at 1613 Del Rio Blvd in Eagle Pass, with a rosary  at 5:00pm. A funeral mass will take place on Monday morning, January 29, at 11:00am at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Eagle Pass (804 North Ceylon Street), with a burial immediately following at Our Lady of Refuge Cemetery. Funeral Arrangement in care of and entrusted to: Yeager Barrera Mortuary, 1613 Del Rio Blvd., Eagle Pass, Texas 78852 PH: 830-773-3211.
