Lucia Garza: 1922-2014

Lucia Garza, born on August 20, 1922, went with the Lord on January 30, 2014 at the age of 91.

Born in Mexico, Lucia Garza is survived by Raul Garza, Rosa Garza, Alicia Garza, Irma Garza, Apolito Garza, and Sergio Garza. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Lucia was a stern, disciplined woman who found great comfort in the love shared by her family. She enjoyed long visits from those who were close to her, and made sure everyone who visited her had the opportunity to spend time with her in her beautiful garden. Lucia also enjoyed barbecuing; she was deeply fond of Mexican food, especially barbacoa. Her family will surely remember how delicious her fritadas was. Until her final days, Lucia remained an elegant, virtuous woman with absolute love for those close to her.

Lucia’s viewing was held on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 pm., with a Rosary held at 11 a.m. on the same day. Services were held on the same day at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. She was laid to rest at the Santo Cristo Cemetery. Arrangements were made under the great care and direction of Valdez & Sons Memorial Funeral Chapels.

David Gomez Lopez: 1932-2014

David Gomez Lopez, born on October 30, 1932, went with the Lord on January 30, 2014 at the age of 81.

Born in Mexico, David is survived by his lovely and devoted wife Rosa Lopez. He is also survived by his daughters Alma Rosa Mendez and Maria Concepcion Lopez; his daughters David Javier and Sergio Javier Lopez; his brother Pedro Lopez Gomez; and his sisters Santa Rosa Lopez and Martha Lopez Gomez, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

David was known to be a great, intelligent professor and a righteous, considerate guide, always ready to deal with all things that came his way. His devoted wife Rosa knew him as an affectionate and loving husband and a remarkable partner who she was fortunate to share her life with. Some knew him as a passionate mechanic who not only managed to repair automobiles and engines, but who undisputedly loved doing so. Others knew him as a baseball fanatic. But everyone who ever came his way will remember him as a great man. David was a loving and devoted husband, an exemplary father, and a great, respectable, righteous friend.

Viewing for David was held on Monday, February 3, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. His service was held on the same day at 7:30 p.m. Another viewing was held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by his service. He was laid to rest at the Maverick County Cemetery. Arrangements were made under the great care and direction of Valdez & Sons Memorial Funeral Chapels.

Robert Lee Herrera: 1966-2014

Robert Lee Herrera, born on April 9, 1966, went with the Lord on January 29, 2014 at the age of 47.

Born in Stanton, Texas, Robert is survived by Concepcion Herrera, as well as his sisters Consuelo Flores, Elva Medina, Eva Herrera; and his brothers Danny Herrera, Arturo Herrera, Rene Herrera, Fernando Herrera, Jose Herrera, Julio Antonio Herrera, David Herrera, and Jesus Herrera.

Robert was a man who was passionate about gardening and music. Some might remember him for his fun, energetic way of singing. He was a man who enjoyed fixing and things and organizing and carrying out remodeling projects. Those who were close to him knew him as “Bear.” Until his final days, Robert was known as a great brother and a loyal, passionate man.

Viewings from Robert were held on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 9.m. His religious services were held the same day at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. Another viewing was held on Monday, February 3, 2014. He was laid to rest at Our Lady of Refuge Cemetery in Eagle Pass, Texas. Arrangements were made under the great care and direction of Valdez & Sons Memorial Funeral Chapels.

Daniel Martinez Banda: 1953-2014

David Martinez Banda, born on November 9, 1953, went with the Lord on February 1, 2014 at the age of 60.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, Daniel is survived by his brothers Ramiro Martinez Banda, Enrique martinez Banda, and Israel Martinez Banda. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Maria Teresa Martinez.

Daniel was known as an energetic, loquacious man who enjoyed long conversation with everyone. Those close to him knew that he had the rare ability of talking to anyone about absolutely anything. Daniel was also fond of construction, remodeling, and was meticulous about his tasks—whether painting, remodeling, or any other project that he was involved with in his life. He will be remembered for his sympathetic and convivial attitude, and his grand, passionate heart.

Viewing for Daniel was held on Monday, February 3, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. His Rosary was held on the same day at 7:30 p.m. Another viewing was held on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., followed by his service at 10 a.m. He was laid to rest at the Maverick County Cemetery in Eagle Pass, Texas. Arrangements were made under the great care and direction of Valdez & Sons Memorial Funeral Chapels.

At this time, we would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers for the Martinez and Banda families, as well as everyone else who was close to Daniel.
